Performed by aesthetic and plastic surgeons, breast lift surgeries may need to be combined with breast augmentation in women with reduced breast volume or breast reduction in women with excess breast tissue. The results of breast lift surgery are long-lasting if the individual maintains a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.

How is Breast Lift Surgery Performed?

Breast lift surgery is tailored to each individual. The surgical technique used depends on the shape and size of the breasts, the size and position of the areola (nipple area),the degree of sagging, the patient’s skin excess, and skin type.

Under general anesthesia, the surgery involves making incisions around the areola, extending to the breast crease or lower part of the breast.

After making the incisions, the underlying breast tissue is lifted to improve the contour and firmness of the breasts. The nipple and areola are repositioned, and if necessary, the enlarged areola is reduced. Excessive, sagging breast skin is removed.

Once the breasts are reshaped and excess skin is removed, the incisions are closed. The goal is to minimize scarring as much as possible, and the patient should follow the surgeon’s recommendations closely. It is normal for surgical stitches to leave scars, which will become less noticeable over time.
