How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty operations are traditionally performed with open or closed methods. If radical changes are to be made to the person's nose and/or nasal septum, the preference should generally be for open rhinoplasty.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nasal aesthetics, is a surgical procedure performed to modify the shape of the nose to fit the individual's face and to correct any structural issues inside the nose that may cause respiratory problems. Rhinoplasty may also be referred to as septorhinoplasty or nasoplasty.

Who Can Undergo Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can be performed once the bone development is complete, provided there are no traumatic or serious breathing issues. Bone development is typically completed by age 16 in women and 17 in men.

Individuals seeking rhinoplasty may have congenital anomalies, wish to reduce or correct the nose, lift the nose, reduce the size of the nostrils, narrow or widen the nose, or align the overall shape of the nose with other facial features. The decision for the surgery should be made based on consultations between the patient and surgeon, following the surgeon's recommendations.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty surgeries are traditionally performed using either open or closed techniques. If significant changes are required to the nose or the nasal septum, the open rhinoplasty method is generally preferred. This technique allows the surgeon to see inside the nose more clearly and work more efficiently.

In closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made only through the nostrils to access the nasal cavity. This technique leaves no visible scars and can also improve the structure and function of the nose. A newer method, Piezo rhinoplasty, also known as painless rhinoplasty, is becoming popular.

In Piezo technique, bones are shaped using ultrasonic vibrations with mini saws and files, without damaging the skin, tissue, or blood vessels. Post-operative complications are minimized, and the healing process is significantly faster.

Rhinoplasty Techniques:

1. Open Rhinoplasty

For individuals with nasal deformities, asymmetry, breathing problems, or nasal tip shape issues, open rhinoplasty is usually the preferred approach. The main advantage of open rhinoplasty is that it allows a clear view of the bones, cartilage, and airway by lifting the nasal skin. In this technique, an additional incision is made in the "columella" area between the nostrils, which joins the incisions on both sides. This allows for better visibility and manipulation of the underlying structures. Although there is a very fine scar in the columella area after surgery, it fades over time and becomes less noticeable.

2. Closed Rhinoplasty

In closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils to access and correct the structures of the nose. The aim is to improve both the shape and function of the nose, similar to open rhinoplasty. Closed rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals without severe asymmetries or deformities, with a well-defined nasal tip and no breathing issues.

It is essential to consider the surgeon's expertise, the patient’s needs, and even the patient’s skin type when choosing rhinoplasty techniques. The surgical technique should be determined based on the specific needs of the patient.

3. Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty

During Piezo rhinoplasty, bones are cut or reshaped using an ultrasonic vibrating tool. This technique eliminates the need for traditional surgical instruments and selectively shapes the bones without damaging surrounding tissues, muscles, or blood vessels.

Piezo rhinoplasty maintains the integrity of soft tissues and allows for precise bone cutting with adjustable vibration power according to bone density. This technique offers increased safety and comfort for both the surgeon and patient. Recovery time is shorter, and the risk of bruising and swelling is reduced due to the gentle cutting of bones. The technique allows for addressing both major issues and minor imperfections in the nose.

Rhinoplasty (Rhinoplasty) Prices 2024

The cost of rhinoplasty in 2024 can vary based on the pricing policies of the hospitals where the surgery is performed, the changes required to the patient’s nose, the technique used, materials employed during the surgery, whether the patient has had previous nose surgeries, the surgeon’s track record, and expertise.
